I really should know better but like a fly to a bit of fly paper I couldn't resist and hey presto I was right all along and now I am kicking myself.  I have been swerving this thread on purpose all d

Proper hunting By that I assume you are talking about "impressive" and dangerous animals. To me proper hunting is a mindset of respect for the quarry and being in nature, not just standing on the sid

I'm awaiting the elephant pics, the one where they get a little irritated by some prat shooting arrows so they stomp on em now that's proper hunting     Some of our greatest naturalist have been

Dont sit well with me, rather watch em than shoot em apex predator an all that.

This animal was an escaped wolf, no pack, no experience, limited prey species other than farm stock in the area and reduced fear of humans!

I would love to see wolves in the UK, in appropriate areas, but there will always need to be control as there never will be a natural population. Well stocked prey species, red deer, in somewhere like scotland would lead to breeding success and increasing populations, these would expand their territories leading to problems as they moved into more urban areas. Especially as there would be the stupid twits feeding em. They would quickly lose their fear of humans and then it would be more than the occasional danger of fox attacks on babies! Alas we have changed the environment to the extent that without our management/intervention nature goes awry plus we are the apex predator so our intervention is part of the natural environment.

And as far as us being THE apex predator i couldnt agree more but the rifle tipped the scales to far in are favour less effective hunting methods should be pushed that help natural selection ie lurchers fastest hare to ever live cant outrun a bullet, anyhow im preaching to the converted.nice pic an sorry for going off topic

I personally like wolves a lot. I am not painting a romantic picture of them,as they are a very good predator, but don't forget, they are what out dogs once were. All dogs, come from wolves, from the tiny chichawa, to the irish wolf hound. I think its a shame they have been controlled to the verge of instinction.. They are different from foxes, not as adaptable, so suffer more from persecution. That wolf, could of easily been trapped alive and returned, unless of course it was attacking everyone ect, but i don't think it was? but in them days, hysteria and ignorance was common. wolfs all ways try and avoid humans. Just my take on it, for those who think different and hunt the wolf ect, fair enough, just not my thing and its funny, i hunt all sorts, but just draw a line when it comes to wolves..

I'm not sure about verge of extinction, in this country they're extinct, but North America, Canada, parts of Europe there are still healthy numbers and my guess is theyre numbers are controlled by Humans.

Pest control for fox or wolf is no different, it just depends where you live.
